Reasons to Change A WordPress Password
Apart from forgetting your WordPress password, changing it is one of the best ways to keep your website and hosting secure. Password security is especially important if you are running an online business as your customers are entrusting you with sensitive personal and financial information.
Here are a few reasons why:
Using the same password across multiple accounts is also a major security risk. For example, using the same one for all your email accounts could lead to all of them being hacked and open to malware attacks and spam. While we strongly recommend you do not use the same login details repeatedly, changing them regularly can help lower the chances of them being cracked or guessed giving attackers access to all those accounts.
WordPress Password Best Practices
With hackers and malicious software becoming more advanced, security breaches and unauthorized access are always a possibility. In this worst-case scenario, you need to change your password as soon as possible.
When creating a new, or wanting to reset your WordPress password, it’s important to follow these best practices to help keep it as secure as possible.
- Include a combination of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
- Ensure it is a minimum of 12 characters long.
- Do not use easily guessable information like names, birthdays, or common phrases.
- Avoid sharing your passwords with anyone.
- Use a password manager for generating, storing, and managing your passwords. Combined with security plugins that limit login attempts.
Additionally, enabling 2-Factor Authentication (2FA) on all your accounts will provide an extra layer of security. 2FA requires users to provide a second form of identification to access an account, such as a numerical code sent via email or text.
