This guide explains how to purchase another SSL certificate for your web hosting plan through your Hosted.com® account. An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate secures the connection between your website and its visitors by encrypting all data that passes between them. This prevents sensitive information, such as login details, contact form data, and payment information, from being intercepted by third parties. When an SSL certificate is active, your website will load using https:// and display a padlock icon in the browser, confirming that the site is protected.

In addition to safeguarding data, SSL certificates contribute significantly to credibility and online visibility. Most modern browsers warn users when a website does not have an SSL certificate installed, which can cause visitors to leave the site immediately. Search engines such as Google also give preference to secure websites, making SSL an important factor in search engine optimization and overall site performance.

Regardless of whether your website is personal, commercial, or transactional, SSL is now a standard requirement rather than an optional extra. It helps protect users, supports compliance with security standards, and reinforces a professional online presence.

How To Purchase Another SSL Certificate For Your Website

How to Purchase Another SSL Certificate

1. Login to your Hosted.com® account by visiting www.hosted.com and login using your account details.

2. From your account dashboard, navigate to Manage Services. Select SSL Certificates to view the available certificate options.

3. Choose the SSL certificate that best suits your website:

  • Domain Validation (DV) certificates provide basic encryption and are ideal for personal websites and blogs.
  • Organization Validation (OV) certificates include business verification and are recommended for company websites.
  • Extended Validation (EV) certificates offer the highest level of trust and are best suited for ecommerce stores and platforms handling sensitive customer data.

4. All SSL types use strong encryption, with the main difference being the level of validation and trust displayed to visitors.

5. Place your order by clicking Buy Now next to the SSL certificate you wish to purchase.

6. The certificate will be added to your cart.

7. Continue to checkout, review the order information, and complete payment.

8. Before the SSL certificate can be issued, domain ownership must be verified. This is usually completed via an approval email sent to a domain-related email address or through DNS validation.

9. Once verification is complete, the SSL certificate will be issued and installed on your hosting account.

10. Open your website using https:// and check that the padlock icon is visible in the browser address bar.

11. Your website connection is now encrypted and secure.

Additional Information

  • SSL certificates protect all data exchanged between your website and its visitors, which is especially important for pages that collect user information or process payments.
  • Web browsers actively flag those websites without SSL certificates as insecure, which can reduce trust and negatively impact visitor behavior.
  • Many website features, including payment gateways, secure login areas, and third-party integrations, require SSL to function correctly.
  • Search engines prioritize HTTPS websites, meaning an active SSL certificate can support better rankings and improved search visibility.
  • After SSL installation, you may need to update website links or enable HTTPS redirects to ensure all site content loads securely.
  • Hosted.com® offers support to assist you with SSL selection, validation, installation, and troubleshooting should any issues occur.
