Browsers also display a padlock icon for SSL-secured websites, helping build trust with your audience and demonstrating that your site is secure.
Why Claim Your Free SSL?
Although the SSL certificate comes included with your cPanel hosting plan, it must be activated for your domain. Without activation, your website will continue to load over HTTP, leaving data unencrypted and potentially showing “Not Secure” warnings in browsers. Claiming your free SSL ensures your website traffic is encrypted and that your Hosted.com cPanel-hosted website meets modern security standards.
How To Claim A Free SSL Certificate
1. Login to Your Hosted.com Account
2. Go to the Manage Services drop-down section and click SSL Certificates.
Install An SSL Certificate
- Your Free SSL Certificate will automatically be installed. If you require another, click Add SSL Certificate.
- Choose your plan, and the system will automatically generate and install the SSL certificate for your domain.
- Once installed, your site will be accessible via https:// and the green padlock icon will appear in the browser.
Additional Information
- Mixed Content: After activation, ensure that all website resources (images, scripts, CSS) are loaded over HTTPS to avoid mixed content warnings.
- Multiple Domains or Subdomains: If your hosting plan includes add-on domains or subdomains, each may require individual SSL activation.
- Browser Cache: Should the padlock not appear immediately, clear your browser cache or use a different browser.
- Security Benefits: SSL protects sensitive visitor data, improves SEO rankings, and increases trust in your website.
- Troubleshooting: When SSL installation fails, ensure your domain points to Hosted.com nameservers and contact Hosted.com support for assistance.
Login to Hosted.com® Account
1. Go to the Hosted.com® website Account Login page.
2. Enter your Email and Password and click the Sign In button.
3. You will see the Hosted.com® Dashboard, displaying the Manage Account menu on the left and your Account Information, Account Overview and Open Support Tickets on the right.
Login to cPanel from your Hosted.com® Dashboard
4. Click on Manage Services to view the sub-dropdown menu and select the hosting package for the domain you want to work with – in our example we are using WordPress Hosting.
5. Click the Manage button to the right of the domain name you want to access.
6. The display will now show Product Information, Quick Manage, Resource Usage and Site Statistics for that domain name.
7. Under Product Information, scroll down to Control Panel, which will display cPanel to the right, and click on the Login button.
