Learn how to generate CSR for Wildcard SSL Certificate and why it is an important step in website safety. A Certificate Signing Request (CSR) is an important step in obtaining an SSL certificate. At Hosted.com®, we provide tools to generate CSRs efficiently, including Wildcard SSL certificates, which secure all first-level subdomains under a primary domain.

A correctly generated CSR ensures the SSL certificate is valid, trusted, and ready for secure installation on your website.

Additional Information

  • Wildcard Scope: The asterisk allows one certificate to secure all first-level subdomains, such as mail.example.com and shop.example.com.
  • Private Key Security: Always store the private key securely; it is required for certificate installation. Thanks to cPanel generating the CSR, the Private Key is also generated during this process and will be securely stored on your cPanel account.
  • Hosted.com® Tools: Hosted.com® provides CSR generation directly in the client dashboard for convenience.
  • Compatibility: The CSR format is compatible with major Certificate Authorities and hosting platforms.
  • Best Practices: Use unique CSRs for each certificate to maintain security.
  • Verification: CSRs for a Wildcard SSL will require domain ownership verification, which your SSL provider will guide you through.
