MX (Mail Exchange) records determine which mail servers handle email for your domain. Correctly managing MX records is essential for ensuring that your emails are delivered reliably. Hosted.com® makes it easy to add, edit, or remove MX records through cPanel.

What are MX Records?

MX records are DNS entries that direct email messages to the correct mail server.

Key points about MX records:

  • Each MX record has a priority. Lower numbers indicate higher priority.
  • Multiple MX records can exist for redundancy. If one server fails, emails are routed to the next server.
  • MX records work alongside SPF, DKIM, and DMARC to ensure secure and reliable email delivery.
