What are MX Records?
MX records are DNS entries that direct email messages to the correct mail server.
Key points about MX records:
- Each MX record has a priority. Lower numbers indicate higher priority.
- Multiple MX records can exist for redundancy. If one server fails, emails are routed to the next server.
- MX records work alongside SPF, DKIM, and DMARC to ensure secure and reliable email delivery.
How to Manage MX Records in cPanel
1. Login to your Hosted.com® account.
2. Navigate to your web hosting plan from the Manage Services menu.
3. Click Manage next to the hosting plan associated with your domain.
4. Click Login next to Control Panel to open cPanel.
5. Scroll down to Domains, and click Zone Editor.
How to View Current MX Records
6. In Zone Editor, locate your domain and click Manage.
7. Filter by MX Records to see existing entries.
How to Add New MX Record
8. Click Add Record, select MX, enter the mail server hostname and priority, then save.
How to Edit MX Record
9. Click Edit next to the record, update the hostname or priority, then save.
How to Delete MX Record
10. Click Delete next to the record and confirm the action.
