Manage email account storage limits is an essential part of maintaining a stable and efficient hosting environment. Every email account created under your domain consumes disk space from your hosting package, and without proper quota management, mailboxes can become full fast.
When an email account reaches its storage limit, it will stop receiving new messages, which can result in missed communications, bounced emails, and operational disruptions.
With Hosted.com®, you can assign custom storage quotas to individual mailboxes or allow unlimited storage (depending on your hosting plan). Setting appropriate limits helps distribute resources fairly across users while preventing excessive disk usage by a single account.
This guide explains how to adjust mailbox storage limits and monitor usage.

Additional Information
- Setting mailbox quotas helps prevent a single email account from consuming excessive disk space and affecting overall hosting performance.
- A full mailbox will reject incoming messages, and senders may receive a bounce notification indicating that delivery failed due to insufficient storage.
- Encouraging users to archive older emails locally using IMAP or export features can significantly reduce server storage consumption.
- Regularly clearing spam and trash folders is important because those messages still count toward the total mailbox quota until they are permanently deleted.
- Unlimited mailbox settings should be used cautiously, as unchecked growth may eventually exceed your hosting package’s overall storage allowance.
- Proactively monitoring storage usage helps avoid unexpected service interruptions and ensures business communication remains uninterrupted.
