Change writing settings in WordPress to customize and manage writing and publishing your site’s content. This includes managing your page and post categories and how they are formatted. Here, we show you how to change the various Writing Settings from your WordPress admin page to streamline posting new content.

This tutorial assumes you have logged in to your Hosted.com Account and accessed WordPress via cPanel, you should be viewing your WordPress Dashboard..

1. In the menu bar on the left, click “Settings”, followed by “Writing”, the Settings submenu will be to the right.

2. Make the changes you want and then click “Save” – for more information about the Writing Settings, refer below.

Additional Information

Login to Hosted.com Account

1. Go to the Hosted.com Login website page.

2. Enter your Email and Password and click the “Sign In” button.

3. You will see the Hosted.com Dashboard, displaying the Manage Account menu on the left and your Account Information, Account Overview and Open Support Tickets on the right.

4. Click on “Manage Services” to view the sub-dropdown menu and select the hosting package for the domain you want to work with – in our example we are using WordPress Hosting.

5. Click the “Manage” button to the right of the domain name you want to access.

6. The display will now show Product Information, Quick Manage, Resource Usage and Site Statistics for that domain name.

7. Under “Product Information”, scroll down to “Control Panel”, which will display cPanel to the right, and click on the “Login” button.

8. The cPanel Dashboard will now be displayed.

9. Scroll down until you get to “Popular Applications”, click on the WordPress icon,

Login To WordPress via cPanel Online

1. Visit your cPanel URL, either supplied to you through your web host or attained through other sign-up methods.

2. Enter your Username

3. Then enter your Password and click “Log in”.

4. Scroll down until you That’s it! You are now logged in to cPanel, and can begin to set up email addresses, parked domains, databases, shopping carts, and dozens of other features!

5. To log out of cPanel, click the User Menu icon on the top right and click “Log Out”.

Types of Writing Settings

Default Post Category & Format

WordPress allows you to assign tags and categories to each post you publish. This makes it easier to organize your site and help users find the content they want to view. You can assign the relevant category the default for publishing new posts.

The default setting is “Standard”. 

Other options are: Aside, Image, Video, Link, Quote, Gallery, and Status.

You can also set the Post Format controlling how posts are displayed on your site’s front end. Most themes on WordPress no longer support using multiple Post Formats but if your theme does support their use, you can set the default format “Standard” to apply it to a specific post.

Note: The formats may differ depending on the theme you have installed.

Post via Email

This allows you to publish blog posts via email. You can configure a specific email address so that when it receives a message, it automatically publishes its contents as a post on your website.

Note: If you want to configure this setting, you will need a POP3-enabled email address that you use solely for this purpose. Remember: advanced post formatting will not appear on the post, as the content published via email will appear as plain text. Also, you may need to install plugins to enable this functionality.

Markdown

A Markdown is a form of writing that uses plain text to add page formatting elements such as headings, bulleted lists, and links without using a text editor or HTML tags.

By turning on the “Write posts or pages in plain text Markdown syntax” option, you can write content in Markdown. Also, you may need a plugin for this.

Date & Time Format

Choose how the Date and Time will be displayed on your site’s posts. The options include:

Date Format: How the date is displayed, e.g., mm/dd/yyyy or dd/mm/yy

Time Format: How the time is displayed, e.g., 24-hour or 12-hour clock.

Week Starts On: Which day the week begins in calendar views, e.g., Monday.

Content Types

Blog posts – Select the number of posts per blog page. The default setting is 10 but remember: increasing the number may lead to slower page loading speeds.

Testimonials – Select the number of Testimonials you want to display per page. If your template does not include Testimonials, use the shortcode [testimonials].

Portfolio Projects – Select the number of Portfolio Projects to display per page. If your template doesn’t have Portfolio Projects, you can use the shortcode [portfolio].

Feed Settings

Select the number of posts to include in your site’s RSS feed.

Feeds can also be limited to excerpts only and users should visit your site to view the full post.

This setting will not affect how content is displayed on your page; only how you display it in your RSS feed.

Infinite Scroll

Allows you to enable Infinite Scroll, a feature that will load more posts as soon as the end of the post page is reached.

Press This

Allows you to enable Press This, a feature that is added as a bookmark and allows you to post text and images from any website directly to your blog without having to open WordPress.
