This article shows you how to invite a User to access a WordPress website or blog and assumes that you are already logged in to WordPress.

WordPress User Accounts

WordPress allows you to create various levels of User accounts for people who need access to the backend of your WordPress site.

Once you have the person’s WordPress Username and Email Address, you can register them on any of the available user role options:

  • Administrator: These Users will have access to almost everything the owner accesses, so ensure it is someone you trust.
  • Editor: Access to pages, categories, tags, posts, comments, and links – again must be trustworthy.
  • Author: Can write, edit, publish, and upload images on their posts.
  • Viewer: Can read and comment on posts and pages on a Private website.
  • Follower: Can read and comment on posts and pages on a Public website.

How To Invite A User To Access A WordPress Site

Why Should You Give Access to Your WordPress Website?

If you have employees or freelancers working on your blog with you, they will need access to the backend of your WordPress site. They may need to post content, edit sections of your site, or do general site maintenance for you. This means they will need some form of access to make those changes and publish new blog posts.

Giving someone working on your WordPress website safe access is straightforward if you follow the steps above. If you do this, there is also the added security benefit of not having to share your WordPress login details or change your password.

Keep in mind that the higher the role you assign, the more user rights that person will have. As the roles progress down, the user will have less access. For example, an Admin will in most cases, have full access to the entire backend, while a Follower can only read and comment on your posts.

If you invite people to your WordPress site at different access levels, you can expand your website and add more content frequently. You can also delegate its day-to-day management to a trusted User.

Removing Users

You can see who has accepted your invitation to view and access your page. If necessary, you can remove users via the WordPress Dashboard.

If you want to delete a viewer, navigate to “Users”, and then to “All Users.” Select the User you want to remove and click “Delete User”. They will no longer have access to your blog.
